Naval Shipbuilding College celebrating 2018 National Skills Week festivities

National Skills Week is the focal point for the promotion of Australia’s Vocational Education & Training (VET) sector which communicates the emerging trends and new growth drivers connecting skills training with job outcomes. Each year, it continues to celebrate and inform students and the public of career pathways available through VET.

Importantly, National Skills Week will also help raise awareness of VET opportunities linked to naval shipbuilding, including trades and apprenticeships.

The Naval Shipbuilding College, headquartered in Osborne, South Australia, was established in April 2018. We’re working with the naval shipbuilding industry, training and education sectors nationally to create a skilled sovereign workforce for the $90 billion ongoing shipbuilding program to build new frigates, submarines and patrol boats for the Royal Australian Navy.

Australia’s revitalised shipbuilding industry will offer a broad range of roles and career paths in conjunction with the Commonwealth Government’s Naval Shipbuilding Plan. More than 15,000 people are ultimately expected to be employed directly or indirectly for the continuous shipbuilding program which includes the full supply chain and providers of sustainment services.
